What is a communications trailer? A communications trailer is a fully autonomous, towable unit that carries everything needed to deliver connectivity to a site with no existing infrastructure — power (AC or solar/battery), a mast for antennas, and cellular, satellite and Wi-Fi equipment. Younifi’s trailers are ADR compliant and off-road ready, and can be towed by a standard vehicle to remote sites, event locations or emergency response areas.
What is the difference between a skid and a trailer? A skid is a self-contained unit without wheels, designed to be relocated by forklift, ute or flatbed and typically left in place for the duration of a deployment. A trailer is towable by a standard vehicle, making it faster to move between sites without additional equipment. Both offer the same core capability — solar/battery or AC power, modular connectivity equipment and remote monitoring — the choice comes down to how the unit needs to be moved and positioned on site.
Can a communications trailer support CCTV? Yes. CCTV is available as an optional module alongside night lights and remote data centre modules, so a trailer or skid can provide site security monitoring in addition to connectivity — useful for remote sites, events or temporary operations without existing security infrastructure.
Can it run on solar and battery? Yes. Younifi’s trailers and skids can be powered by AC power or by solar and batteries, with up to 22kWh of battery capacity, 1 to 4 solar panels, and up to 5 days of battery redundancy — making them suitable for sites with no mains power or extended off-grid deployments.
Can it use Starlink, cellular and Wi-Fi together? Yes. Trailers and skids are built with a modular design that combines cellular extension, Wi-Fi broadcasting and satellite backhaul, so a single unit can provide multiple connectivity types at once rather than relying on just one network. This is particularly useful for sites where cellular coverage is weak or absent and satellite (including Starlink) fills the gap.
